Both rivers are flatwater and have creeks and estuaries full of wildlife. As tidal rivers, you have more options at a high tide for paddling destinations, however at low tide there will be more wildlife. Please understand that while a destination may be advertised, it may change based on the weather, conditions, or the experience level of the paddlers.
Equipment and Experience
Some experience is recommended when you join us on a tour, however our experienced guides are there to help you. If you are paddle boarding you must have sufficient experience to keep up with the group. Children are welcome however we recommend a max of two hours for those under 16 years. The Full Moon tour is for 16 years+. We suggest that you consider a double kayak for those under 16, unless they are experienced and strong enough to keep up with adults. 3 years and up may paddle in a kayak with an adult. Doubles will accommodate up to two adults and a child.

BYO Equipment? Sorry mates, there is no discount for bringing your own equipment. If you are intending to join a tour or lesson, in Westport you can launch from the north end of the marina at the transient dock, or across the river at the public launch. In Rowayton you would use the public launch downriver and either paddle up to the store, or have the guides meet you there on their way out.

Make the experience super special, safe and interesting with a Downunder Guide
Guides allow you to relax while they manage the details – including keeping the group together, watching the weather, other paddlers/boats, and entertaining kids.
They are knowledgeable about the local area, and will guide you to the best location* based on the conditions, the group, timing etc. We suggest a ratio of 1:6 kayaks -1:4 kayaks for children, depending on ages. More if using SUPs. SUPs are usually a little slower, so keep that in mind if you are planning a ‘blended’ outing. Guides are happy to help you switch from kayak to SUP midway to allow the group to all ‘give it a go’. When possible, guides take out a waterproof camera to capture the fun.
Guides are $60 for one hour, $45 addition hours, in addition to your rentals.
*All our tours are weather dependent – your actual destination may change depending on the conditions.
