What People Are Saying About Us!
This was our second summer at the Downunder SUP and Kayak camp. Both of my children – ages 7 and 9 – had a blast at camp this year, and my older daughter is returning from a wonderful experience last year. They were jumping with excitement and couldn’t wait to get started everyday of the session. I love that they spend time outside in the water, in a very safe environment, and learning great life skills. They feel very confident and independent after learning to paddle and kayak on their own. The instructors do a really great job at keeping it fun and entertaining, with scavenger hunts, towing and other group activities. The swimming at the end of each day and the special surprise at the last day of camp are the icing on the cake. My children and their friends are already looking forward to returning next year! 8/24/14: ★★★★★ “It’s hard to believe you can find this much Martha’s Vineyard/Nantucket/Aussie panache (yes, maybe Aussie’s have panache) in Fairfield County. But you can. Between Downunder and Marc’s Rowayton Market, the pricey real estate actually is a bargain! I mean come on – ON THE FREAKING WATER!!!! SOund & River! Never hot!!!!. Less snow. Kayaking!!! Downunder is magical.” Frank Izzo, Rowayton
August 2014: ★★★★★ ” What a great place with an awesome staff. I was turned on to this today by my friend Brian. Never tried SUP before. I’m hooked after the first day. As someone who owns a business I know its all about first impression. When we arrived it was very nice, clean, comfortable and laid back. Not sure who we met but the girls up front are super frenidly. Quick lesson by the guys at the dock and your off. Cool shop with nice clothing, boards etc. Awesome price too only $30 for an hour on the river. So needless to say I’ll be back and bringing friends. Keep up the good work.” Tony Salamanca
8/15/14: “A quick note of thanks for supporting the meditation program! I have rarely worked with anyone who is so on top of marketing the programs facilitated by independent contractors. You have gone above and beyond, and I am very grateful for your energy, your support, and your efforts, both professionally and personally!” Kim Feeney
8/8/14: “Good Morning Karen! Yesterday was amazing! I am so thankful that I was able to connect with you. As soon as I walked into the store I felt at ease. Thank you for your patience, positive energy and willingness to help guide me in my purchase. The Yolo 12′ Honu is a perfect fit. It truly was worth the trip! Best wishes to you, Kim and the store staff.” Val Francis
7/28: “Just wanted to say a huge thank you!! I can’t tell you how much I love that QuickBlade paddle I finally picked up today! I took it out for a spin this afternoon on my LPC Wet Woody Sport and it was a little slice of heaven. It’s crazy what a difference it made even to a noobie like me. You guys were so great helping me out, I really appreciate it!” Best, T.
7/21: “I wanted to let you know I was VERY impressed by all of your staff at Down Under and how well they worked with everyone that came in on Sunday (myself included). It’s always great to be able to rely on good people and it’s very clear you have a great group there.” CJ
7/20: “I had to email you asap to let you know that our event yesterday was BY FAR the singularly most loved, appreciated, deep event we’ve had (and that’ out of SIXTEEN events I’ve done since I launched Living All The Way in January!!).
The weather was perfect, your team at DownUnder handled everything cheerfully, professionally and flawlessly, Nunz was the best GD guide, most enthusiastic, most gushing human being we could have asked for. We arrived strangers and left sisters. Honestly Kim…it was transcendental.
As we walked to our cars, one of the gals said, “So, how does it feel knowing that you’ve changed every one of our days today?” And I started to cry. That’s what it’s all about, right? I can’t thank you enough.” xxx Aliza Freedman
“Hi Karen and Kim,
We had such an amazing and fun time today. Thank you so much for your warm welcome! It is so nice to walk into a place with such positive energy. All of your staff were so friendly, helpful and kind hearted. I would highly recommend your venue to anybody, including parents who have children with disabilities! We hope to come again!
All the best, Ila :))))” – Ila Vinchkoski
“Dear Kristen, Just want to tell you how much our girls and our leaders enjoyed Nikki today. She was a delightful guide for our kayaking trip and took fabulous pictures of our girls. They enjoyed every minute of the trip. Thank you and her for making it so special. All our thanks again–we’ll be back!” – Suzanne Chazin and all of Troop 1029
“A heartfelt thank you to you and your wonderful staff for providing such a phenomenal SUP experience to my daughter and all of the other kids who participated in Sunday’s event. By the show of hands, you had many first-timers braving the waters with you. It was amazing to watch you in action from the shore, managing to teach every young paddler how to stand up and maneuver. My daughter, Jane, arrived with nervous jitters but left with genuine confidence and a feeling of accomplishment. The two hours she spent with you was the perfect way to introduce her to a sport that she has watched her cousins and siblings have fun with but has been too shy to attempt. Now she can paddle with the best of ’em! As a mom of 3, including a 13 year old, I am always happy to have a screen-free physical activity to do together. They may give me one word answers at the dinner table or on a ride to a friend’s house, but the conversation flows while bodies are in motion. We look forward to using our gift cards from Santa when school lets out! Thank you, again, for such a great time on the water!” – Meg C
Tommie Cares Event in September:

“Downunder has an absolutely perfect set up for not only going stand up paddling, but a ideal location for my Kalama Kamps. Their location relative to the water is what makes it so easy to teach or just get in the water and go. Their staff is top notch and has adopted their leader Kim’s philosophy, of pure stoke and love for stand up. You just can’t do any better than Downunder when you’re in the north east.” – Dave Kalama
“Just wanted to say the paddlefit class was great and your shop was amazing! Wish you were on Long Island but I will definitely make the ferry ride back!” – Christa Noblett

“I just want to tell you that Lily had a GREAT time last week doing the Wallaby program. Even though the temperatures were scorching, she came home every day with a smile and a new story. Everything was top-notch…the guides/instructors, the program, the equipment as well as your generosity at Joey’s By The Shore and Robeks! Thank you for erring on the side of caution yesterday by sending them to Carabiners. It was already one of Lily’s favorite places to go and when it was combined with SUP afterwards, it made a great end to the week!
Thanks for everything, Kim. I really appreciate your help in accommodating Lily’s scheduling issues and will whole-heartedly recommend Down Under to my friends!!” – Glenn Sutton

“Down Under Westport was the perfect location for the first gathering of The Nature Conservancy’s Young Professionals Group. From the moment we arrived, you and your staff were wonderfully helpful and accommodating, and your suggestion of Tutti’s to cater could not have worked out better – their food was scrumptious! The riverside terrace was such a scenic place for our “après-kayak” cocktails — we enjoyed it so much, and you were very gracious to allow us to stay well beyond our allotted time! And of course, the highlight was the kayaking, with Jay providing interesting commentary along the way, and making sure that we had a safe, fun and informative excursion. Thanks again Kim for a great event. We will definitely be back!” – Jill Cancellieri

Bear Naked Granola
Kelly Flatley and Brendan Synnott, owners of Bear Naked, agree that “this was a great way for our employees to spend time together, enjoy some fresh air and exercise, and be on the water.” The Bear Naked team paddled to the Fish Islands where they enjoyed lunch and beach games, and cleaned up the shoreline. Flatley added, “At Bear Naked, we work hard and play hard. Down Under Kayaking gave us an experience that included both – although it wasn’t really that hard – it was a lot of fun! The guides were helpful, knowledgeable, and really took care of our team.”

Kids in Crisis July 2014
To Kim and Downunder,
I can’t thank you enough for what you have provided for our kids once again this summer. It was so amazing to see each one of them get out there and experience something they probably would not have had an opportunity to otherwise. At first, our kids were anxious and afraid to try something new. Within such a short time with your excellent instructors they were able to overcome those fears and overcome their uncertainty of trying something new. It was so awesome to see them all not only kayak, but to “SUP”, which was an idea they all initially rejected. Its been over a week now and our kids have talked about their experience everyday since. So once again, thank you for what you have given not only our kids but to me as well. I will never forget it. Owen
Norwalk Family & Children’s Agency:
“Down Under Kayaking presented our adolescent girls group with a wonderful opportunity to learn to kayak and while learning to rely each other. Thanks Kim!” – Family & Children’s Agency, Norwalk
6 girls came out with us for morning of ‘fun’. Only to them, it was scary stuff. Several of whom didn’t know how to swim, and most didn’t know how to kayak. The beauty is – they faced this fear, got out there, did great, had a blast, and raved about it afterwards. More importantly is what it did for their self esteem, and how it empowered them. Every time we face a fear and tuck it away as ‘mastered’, we’re better able to face the next, more inclined to take chances, and pretty much, live our lives more fully.
