Westport has everything you need for Kayaking and Stand-Up Paddling -- Rentals, Sales, Storage, Marina, and Surf Shop
Located right on the scenic Saugatuck River. Enjoy more than 3 miles of navigable flat water that leads out to Long Island Sound. Explore the local Norwalk Islands, an archipelago of 25 treasure spots, including the Stewart McKinley Wildlife Reserve and the historical Sheffield Island Lighthouse. Upriver, at just the right tide, you can paddle under the Route 1 bridge at Westport center as far as the dam and visit the fish ladder! This is recommended as a guided tour.
Special Features
- Year-round Surf Shop – Buy whatever you want for kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, or being in cool fashion -- anytime! Be ready for that spontaneous vacation to somewhere warm. Our Westport Surf Shop is open year-round.
- Extended Season Rentals – Wearing the right gear you can paddle board into November and potentially all winter (guided from December through March). We carry all you need. Kayaks - sit-inside only (sea kayaks), and with proven capsize and recovery experience.
- Surf Parties: The perfect grown-up party place – enjoy surf parties anytime of the year – we have everything you need: tiki bar, flat-panel display with surf videos, caterer (with liquor license), and wait staff in boardshorts and flip-flops.
- Rent the Store: Want somewhere cool for an event, trunk show, meeting... $75/hour, staff additional.
- Marina – 20 slips are available for seasonal rent and a transient slip so you can swing in off the river for a look-see, to stretch your legs, go for a paddle, or shop!
- SUP Storage – Leave your “baby” in our covered storage area in a custom-built rack, snug in a board bag, safely locked away, yet ready to go when the urge to hit the water grabs you. Call ahead and we’ll even bring it down to the dock – quick on and off!
- Public Launch Site – Opposite our marina is a public launch site so that you can easily join guided tours or instruction in your own kayak or on your own SUP.
- Handicap Accessible – Take advantage of the elevator from the garage to the store and back out to the dock. Our staff will gladly assist you as needed, particularly in and out of the kayaks, and with storage of any of your equipment. We do recommend going out with one of our experienced guides, especially if it is your first time.
- Sea Kayaks – Available for guided tours and instruction orKayak for a Cause training.
Both locations are full-service with kayak and stand-up paddle board (SUP)rentals, accessories, and a wide array of recreational and instructional programs. And, both have that true Kiwi spirit, downunder charm, and atmosphere which makes them excellent venues for parties and outings.
Rowayton operates seasonally only. Westport is open year-round, allowing us to offer an extended SUP season with the use of wetsuits – there’s nothing like fall and spring paddling, when you do it safely and properly outfitted. The Surf Shop is always open, making gift giving easy: think SUPs and kayaks for Christmas presents; swimsuits, sun glasses, and sandals for winter break; and unique fashions and accessories for everyday purchases. Westport’s Surf Shop is a unique and dynamite party venue anytime of the year, we’ll break out the tiki bar, turn up the tunes, and help you kick back -- adults only. Water sports optional!
