In 2017, Downunder opened its third location, at Weed Beach in Darien. This concession will make it easier for paddlers from the south and west to paddle with Downunder – and not have to deal with long drives on I95!  Non-residents, or anyone without a beach sticker, need a reservation.  There is a $15 fee for non-residents, payable at the time of reservation.  Reservations may be made 24 hours in advance, by calling the Westport store (203) 956-6217. Your paid receipt – hard copy or on your phone – is to be shown to the gate guard.

In addition to rentals, we are offering SUP Yoga*, SUP Lessons*, and Tours*.  Reservations are recommended for these* and can be made at the beach, or by calling either Westport.  If you are making a reservation, you need to call the store 24 hours in advance – otherwise just show up and take your chances.  We do not take cash payments at the beach, credit cards only.

Located on Long Island Sound, Weed Beach is close to islands, coves, and harbors. A safe paddling area for novices through experienced paddlers. Beautiful homes to admire, and an abundance of wildlife.

This is a tidal location and at low tide, the launching area is rocky and can be slippery.  We recommend water shoes or some form of foot covering.

Local, Dot Kelly, wrote a great article about paddling in the area – back in 2009!
It’s all still applicable and a great read.
